Issue #20 of the Charmed comic kicks off Volume 4, or the fourth arc, of the continuing storyline. Magical beings have been stripped of their powers and normals have been given abilities. Now it’s up to the sisters to figure out how to fix a world turned upside down.

When Garth’s in the house, hunting takes on a whole new meaning. He’s not on par with many of the hunters we know, but he gets things done. Isn’t that the most important part? The boys team up with Dean’s new buddy in this week’s episode and have an alcohol-fueled adventure.

The Daddy issues continue this month in the Angel & Faith comic. The negative ramifications of family can still be felt in Drusilla, Angel, and especially Faith. Last time we delved deeply into the damage Angelus did to Dru, but this month it’s all about Faith.

All year we’ve been watching Sam become a ticking time-bomb, edging closer and closer to a breakdown. Finally, the poor man cracked and ended up in an asylum with Lucifer riding shotgun. And Dean, doing what he always does, searched high and low for a solution to save his brother from permanent insanity.

It is hard to create a comic that affects readers so deeply that they deem it the best of 2012 only three months in. However, Saga #1 did just that. This storyline is amazing. Brian K. Vaughan has created a world that you become so emotionally invested in that you transcend being just a reader and instead feel like a participant in the outcome.

With the promise of cursed objects as the case of the week, this week’s episode proved that appearances can be deceiving. Though we didn’t get a lot of progress on answering questions of the overarching plot, we did get a ton of build-up to the inevitable crash that Dean and Sam are going to have.

With an uncertain future for Buffy and a twist that I never saw coming, this month’s issue is sure to spur discussion among fans. I’m enjoying the give and take of Buffy and Spike’s relationship and I long for their happily ever after, or as close as they can get to it, but going by this issue they have a lot of hurdles in their way.

In the world of Angel and Faith, there are plenty of Daddy issues to go around. Not only is Faith’s actual father back in the picture, we are also treated to a newly-sane Drusilla coming in to complicate Angel’s life. Or perhaps she’s making everything better? That’s the debate raging in this issue of the comic.
