Author Archives: Jake Lloyd

No, Jake was not the kid in Star Wars Episode 1. That kid is 6 years younger than Jake. When the movie was being shot Jake was 16. Did Anakin look 16?! That kid’s name isn’t even Jake, it's Jacob. How lame is that?!*

Born March 15th 1983, Jake Lloyd was raised on Long Island, New York. When he was a little kid he used to perform Derringer's "Real American" for an invisible audience in his living room. Jake became infatuated with entertainment as a child due to "The Dick Van Dyke Show," the work of Don Knotts (he REALLY wanted to be a cartoon fish) and Michelangelo from the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Those roots grew into a passion for film, comics, video games, and all around geek culture.

He now resides in Hollywood CA where he is a full time stereotype. A stand-up comedian, writer, director, actor, editor, musician, and artist, Jake clearly suffers from some form of mental illness and attention issues.

Jake has hosted for the Improv Comedy chain and appeared at various comedy clubs opening for acts like Tom Wilson, Ralph Harris, Brian Posehn, and Daniel Tosh to name a few.

This time we’re taking a look at yet another incredibly fun movie that, without Hulu, I’d probably never see: a star-before-they were-stars-studded 1998 flick called Thursday. This R-rated, humorous yet dark and twisted flick plays like an over-the-top B-movie stepchild of Quentin Tarantino.

We’ve seen most of our favorite Marvel characters leap from the page to the screen successfully played by actors who were seemingly born for the roles. But they weren’t all ideal — some of the casting was less than par. I want to turn back the hands of time and re-cast some of the poorly-cast roles in Marvel’s motion picture catalog.

Why do some folks who read comics, love movies, and dig action and sci fi love the idea of a “hero” and have an appreciation for nearly every sort of art and performance disrespect pro wrestling so much? Isn’t wrestling just a combination of EVERYTHING that they love?

Hulu is by far the greatest thing to grace the Internet since that Numa Numa kid. And it has the single weirdest collection of completely random feature films! This time we’re taking a look at my new favorite movie I can’t believe I didn’t know existed: Erik The Viking! It’s awesome! How come you guys never told me about it?!

Released in 1994, Love and a .45 is an extremely fun independent film that could be described as a Bonnie and Clyde for the grunge era. The title alone was enough for me give it a chance, and within the first 15 minutes I was in love with it.

Like my favorite magazine articles of old, I’d like to have a little old school “Wizard Casting Call” and explore who I personally would think make an incredible Justice League of America. Let’s begin!
