We get more into the set-up of friendship between Brenda and Mia, a connection between past and present, and a determination that just because time has passed doesn’t mean the opportunity has as well.

This issue provided a bit more backstory on where Mia came from. We see her in 1969 Monterrey, where she’s working a fancy party and planning to steal jewels from the hostess. Later, from her fence, she learns of a mark by the name of The Ice Man. This would prove to be her downfall, and also the connection between past and present.
Back in 1999 San Francisco, Mia wakes up and joins Brenda on her journey to work. While she hangs out on campus with some magazines, standing out in her distinctive outfit, Brenda works in the science building. Her boss is testy and she learns there were some guys who were angered by the mess she made yesterday in the server room. A mystery is emerging, and it becomes a bit clearer as Mia’s past and Brenda’s present come together.
The guy who paid for the new science building, Dr. Carsten Friese, is the one that did this to Mia. She followed the lead on The Ice Man, found his house/laboratory, and then blacked out until she woke up in present day. And while she thinks the machine helped her travel forward in time, it actually cryogenically froze her instead. Dr. Friese was a pioneer in cryostasis, meaning Mia didn’t travel in time, and now she’s stuck here.
To cheer her up, Brenda offers to help her steal the Net of Indra in present day. It’s possible, since the jewel is on tour and will be coming to San Francisco a week from Friday. Past and present can come together and pull off a heist. The only complication is that Hatch, Mia’s arch rival and the one who also tried to steal the Net of Indra prior, is revealed to be the son of Dr. Friese and very much still a threat. I wonder if his father might come into play again as well, or if there was a reason they chose Mia to be frozen. Those are mysteries yet to be solved.
Can Brenda and Mia pull off their crime? Can they work together and avoid the threat of Hatch? Is there any commonality between the two women? That’s what this series promises to explore, and I look forward to seeing where we go next.
