The upcoming Deadpool adaptation, starring Ryan Reynolds, has taken another step towards production. SuperHeroHype is reporting that Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, the two guys behind Zombieland, have been tapped to pen the Deadpool script. Spinning off from 2009’s X-Men Origins: Wolverine, this new film presumably will pick up Reynolds’ character at some point in the continuity that has him at least a little closer to his fast talking and utterly insane comic book roots.
Reese and Wernick previously wrote a script for another Marvel property, Venom, and they are scheduled as the writers for the upcoming Zombieland sequel. Ryan Reynolds is committed to DC’s Green Lantern adaptation before he steps back into the Deadpool role, so it’ll still be a while before the merc with a mouth finds his way back into theaters.
