The world is going to end, again, and the boys are yet unaware. With some brief glimpses at a long-lost character, a threatening archangel, and a Knight of Hell who is set on ruling the world his own way, we’re in for a lot of great adventure as the season goes on. Oh, the possibilities!
Note: This recap may contain spoilers!
Michael in the alternate world is quite unlike the one we had over here. This one is hardened, focused, and keen on torturing Lucifer any chance he gets. And he’s also ready to bridge the rift between our two worlds and rule over here as well. But he cannot accomplish this on his own, so that’s why it pays to have a prophet under your control. Enter that world’s Kevin Tran, who is jumpy and nervous and not strong enough to defy Michael’s orders, even if it means destroying everything around them. Good thing Lucifer’s got a trick or two up his sleeve, despite being tortured and drained of a bit of his grace. Even if he’s not fully-powered, he’s at least managed to get back to our world so he can warn of the coming destruction. The question is, can Michael’s plan be stopped before he breaches the divide, and will Lucifer be controlled after it’s all over? When you’ve got multiple Big Bads vying for attention, you cannot forget the ultimate powerful demon who has destroyed the Winchesters’ lives time and time again.
Speaking of Sam and Dean, they have quite a complicated situation to deal with as well. Seems like what’s dead hasn’t really stayed dead in terms of a certain Mr. Ketch. And he’s set his sights on killing witches, which is what gets the Winchesters involved. Daniela, a witch who managed to escape his torture, confirms that the screengrab they have of a Ketch-lookalike is indeed the one who is responsible, so they set a trap to capture him and find out what’s going on. The old evil twin routine was a bit sketchy, but I was starting to believe it. Arthur Ketch might be dead, but his twin brother Alexander could still be walking around. After all, Sam followed the paper trail and thought it to be true as well. It was only Dean that held out, convinced that Arthur and Alexander were one and the same, even though they surely killed Arthur. Rising from the dead wouldn’t be the weirdest thing that happened in their lives. I’m split between being really pleased the Ketch is still alive, since I did like him, and a bit peeved that he will play into Asmodeus’s larger plans. I hope the boys can defeat Ketch again, hopefully for the final time, and take down Asmodeus as well.
And if all that weren’t enough, there’s the whole Lucifer, Cas, and Asmodeus situation going on as well. All Cas wanted to do was meet with his angel contacts and track down Jack’s location. Now he’s tied up with Lucifer begging for help in defeating Michael and Asmodeus being gung-ho on finding Jack himself. At least Dean and Sam know Asmodeus is on their trail, considering he tortured the motel clerk from Dodge City and now the man’s missing. But they’re clueless about what else is going on, thinking Cas might be safe instead of locked up in Asmodeus’s prison. I wonder how long it will take the Winchesters to find out Cas is missing, and then to track down his location. In the meantime, I fear that Asmodeus will just get more powerful and utilize Lucifer to his benefit. Seems odd that this is the same demon who feared Lucifer, considering how much Asmodeus got mutilated upon their former encounter but, as he pointed out, this Lucifer is a bit softer and not as powerful, so it stands the reason the Knight of Hell could take the throne as its leader and not have to worry about Lucifer taking back control. Though, once Lucifer does recharge, I think there’s going to be some fireworks down in Hell.
Lots of exciting adventures await the Winchesters, along with assured destruction. Here’s hoping they find Jack, get enough fire power to take on Asmodeus, and are able to stop Michael from invading as well. Poor Dean and Sam, never a chance to kick back and relax when the next apocalypse is always on the horizon.
