Showtime has announced that its historical drama The Borgias will end after this current third season. The final episode, “The Prince,” will air on June 16. In the press release announcing the cancellation, Showtime’s president of entertainment, David Nevins, says, “It has been an honor to work with the great Neil Jordan and the incomparable Jeremy Irons on The Borgias. Neil has written nearly every episode of this series himself. His extraordinary storytelling combined with Jeremy’s fascinating portrayal of the infamous Pope Alexander VI, has made for truly outstanding television that will live on. I look forward to future collaborations.”

Showtime’s banner drama Dexter is about to begin its final season as well. With both Dexter and The Borgias concluding this year, Showtime will be wide open for two new dramas to enter the fold next season.
