It’s no secret that the Iron Man movie was a huge success, and it only makes sense that Eaglemoss would pay homage to the movie with a special addition to their line of lead Marvel figurines. Here’s my review of the movie edition Iron Man figure.
Here it is, without any more preamble: This is one of the best figures (if not the best figure) produced so far in this line. Presenting Tony Stark in his Iron Man Mark I armor from the movie, this figurine stands around 3.5″ tall, in scale with the rest of the CMF line. The armor is suitably bulky and recalls all the details of the welded and cobbled-together suit Tony made in the caves. He’s posed in mid-step, obviously carrying a lot of weight and about to attack.
The sculpting is astoundingly detailed, particularly at this small scale. Eaglemoss didn’t skimp or shortcut it. You can see where all the metal plates come together, and there’s a ton of detail in the machinery and gadgets that hold the suit together. The flamethrower and rocket launchers on his arms are well defined, and all the mechanical parts and wires in the back really do look great when you check this guy out in person. I think this is an instance when the photos don’t do the actual piece justice.
The paints are excellent as well. Admittedly, it would be pretty hard to mess up a paint job that is supposed to look tarnished, pitted, and unplanned, but I’m still impressed by this one. The texturing gives the armor a great “found item” feel that’s true to how Tony assembled the suit at the beginning of the film.
This figurine comes on one of the oversized black square bases like the ones you’ll find on the figurines of the Hulk, Thing, Colossus, and their ilk. It helps give him an even bulkier appearance, rounding out an already awesome piece. I definitely recommend this one, and not just for completists of the Classic Marvel Figurines line.
