Once again Mr. Beedle brings to life that old tale of the world’s most famous outlaw with some of the comic hilarity that comes with the Muppets. In this second installment of the series our band of merry men is joined by the ever popular Friar Tuck, who is embodied by Fozzie the Bear, and we also meet the famous antagonist that is Prince John who had tried to hire Sir Swineman of the Sword, portrayed by Link Hogthrob, to infiltrate Robin’s gang. This ends in disaster because Swineman is the classic dumb jock knight.
In this installment we get to see the beginning of the romance between Robin and Marian. This begins when Robin saves her from a dangerous Venus Flytrap and takes her back to his secret hide-out where they share their first kiss, which is followed by a very sharp and painful slap from Maid Marian to our poor hero.
Later the gang of outlaws tries to crash Prince John’s party with some tricks that are fairly reminiscent of a scene in a certain Rob Reiner film (The Princess Bride for instance?). Also at said party the classic scene of Robin & Co. swordfighting with Prince John’s forces is turned instead into a very comic and hilarious food fight. The end of this issue leaves the dear old Marian in a romantic whirlwind that made me giddy with anticipation as to what will happen to the couple in the next issue.
Overall this issue brings out all the comedic guns it has, making a thrilling and funny as H-E-double hockey sticks of a time. In short, it’s a good continuation to an already great series.
