Well, to start off with, I received two covers with my copy and neither looks promising for the crew. We all know that things will get worse before they get better, if they get better.
Note: This recap may contain spoilers!
Jubal Early is chatting with Alliance members, saying he will hunt down the crew. Elsewhere, Jayne is relaxing with Bea, the woman looking for Mal, and about to get kicked off if they don’t find him soon. Meanwhile, the crew is racing towards a hospital for Zoe. Even though Mal knows the Alliance will be tipped off, he and Simon go with Zoe.
The Alliance is notified and Zoe tells Mal to leave. He doesn’t want to leave her behind, not after all they’ve been through, but Zoe doesn’t want her baby getting taken by the Alliance. So, Mal reluctantly leaves and a team of Alliance soldiers surrounds Zoe. Back on the ship, Mal is naturally upset about leaving Zoe behind, but River comes up with a plan.
Since she has so much untapped information in her head, she wants to go into a coma and see what she can find out. Simon does what his sister wants, under protest. Then Bea and Jayne show up. Bea begins to plead her case, but Mal shuts her down. He wants nothing to do with her New Resistance and believes that she and her crew were followed.
Mal was right. Jubal Early floats through space and lands on Serenity. Bea’s ship explodes, leaving her and Jayne on Serenity. After they escape, Mal gives Jayne a dressing down and says he can’t trust the man anymore. Jubal has broken onto the ship and hovers over River. Meanwhile, Zoe is being threatened by an Alliance man named Rodgers. It’s a very serious threat, and it’s unclear what Zoe will do.
The issue ends on a sad note, with the crew being separated and Bea having lost her friends. It’s going to be interesting to see what Zoe does after the threat Rodgers gave her. I also would like to see Jayne become part of the crew again. Jubal is still his creepy, weird self. I’ve always wondered if he went through the same thing as River or he’s just strange.
