Have your Batman, take your Spider-Man, and love your Superman — just leave me Captain Planet. While making the environmentally conscious cartoon from the ’90s into a live action movie has been my dream for some time, I fear it will take a turn for cheesy. But that hasn’t stopped me from imagining the perfect cast for the film.
Gaia: Sofia Vergara
She didn’t have an accent in the movie, but how awesome would she look in that purple goddess outfit?
Ma-Ti: Avan Jogia
The sensitive one of the bunch taken on by the sex of the Victorious cast.
Gi: Brenda Song
She needs a job after Zack & Cody grew up.
Wheeler: Rupert Grint
He doesn’t need the money, but he needs to put his gingerness to good use.
Linka: Leighton Meester
This would be a step up from a CW show.
Kwame: Bow Wow
I wanted one of Will Smith’s kids to take this one, but after Lottery Ticket (hilarious by the way) I have to go with Bow Wow so he can add some sass.
Captain Planet: Ryan Seacrest
Think about it, really think about it and then nod in agreement.
Some of those are spot on, especially Brenda Song and Rupert Grint! FYI, you currently have a picture of Leighton Meester in instead of Blake Lively. Understandable, as she’s not usually blonde.
I was totally with you until Ryan Seacrest… then you kind of lost me. Who would be your B choice for Captain Planet?
Thanks Michelle for catching the Gossip mix up! And Kelly, if I couldn’t get Ryan away from one of his million jobs…I’d have to go with…hmm, that’s a tough one. I would say Ryan Reynolds but he was already a superhero. But if the movie was more a comedy than a legit action movie, I’d go with NPH just because he has the build and could pull of the cheese factor without making it end up stupid. Well, there was Smurfs, but that’s another story haha :)
You can get a taste of Brenda Song as Gi in the ‘Don Cheadle is Captain Planet’ short on Funny or Die. Pretty amusing, though fair warning there is a bit of profanity.
All of these are terrible. I’m sorry, but this kind of cast is not worth a big budget superhero movie. These are all aweful, but Leighton Meester for Linka? That’s is my childhood heroine there, and I will not waste my money to see her played by a woman like that. She doesn’t even look like her!
When I wrote it, I wasn’t thinking it was for big summer Blockbuster, but I can see where you’d get defensive if it was your hero. I am still scolding mad about the idea of a Drop Dead Fred remake.
I hear you. They’re remaking Susperia. I’m not happy about that.
