Last week, we were treated to the news that a new Silent Hill game was being released and a well known actor was being used as a character model. Silent Hills, as it is currently being called, will star Norman Reedus of The Walking Dead fame. I think it’s a brilliant marketing move. It may drive fans of the show to play the game and vice versa. I am a big Silent Hill fan. It’s one my favorite horror genre games. Some of the games have been better than others but that is true of any franchise.
I was thinking about the games when it struck me: there hasn’t been a female heroine in the main game series for years — not since Silent Hill 3. I think there should be one. I prefer original characters over actor/actress models most of the time. However, I did think of some actresses that would do well as models in the Silent Hill games. Here are my picks. Feel free to share yours!
Her role in Hanna really influenced my decision. She could definitely fight her way out a horror game. She would do great in a role similar to that of Heather’s: a young girl facing the horrors of Silent Hill.
I have yet to see Konami have a Japanese character as part of the main action. I chose Rinko because of her acting and almost unearthly appearance. Her voice is a little haunting as well. I mean this in a good way.
Halle is a very versatile actress who has played many intense roles. I could see her as avenging woman fighting her way through the purgatory of Silent Hill, perhaps in a role similar to Harry Mason’s.
Chloë Grace Moretz
This lady has already acted in dark, murderous roles in movies like Kick-Ass and Carrie. I don’t think seeing her as a character model in Silent Hill is a stretch. She could easily be a part of the game with her voice, acting, and appearance.
Please, let me explain. Many of Silent Hill’s characters look like your nice next door neighbor and completely normal. Amy has that cute girl-next-door vibe that makes you want to see how she would fare in a horror movie/game situation. She would look so out of place in the game as to make it work.
So, there you have it. Those are my top choices. Ellen Page was left off the list because her appearance has been used, on purpose or not, for so many games. Give the girl a break and let the next Silent Hill hero be another female.
