Part three of Senso finds Usagi and Tomoe riding through the nearest town, warning people of the invaders. The invaders are setting buildings aflame and crushing everyone under their metal feet. There is some humor amongst the tragedy, when what I assume is a cat-type man (only because of his teeth) sees Usagi. He obviously has some history with Usagi and goes to attack him. He then gets shot by the invaders, Usagi never even noticing him, and leaving his niece to stare at his burning body in shock.
Meanwhile, back on the battlefield, Noriyuki, Takenoko, Jotaro, and the others are observing the ship and the aliens left behind. Takenoko correctly surmises they are from outer space and even goes on to say that this one ship could be the beginning of a full scale invasion. He thinks that this first group is just a scouting ship. The aliens want to see what their numbers and strengths are. On this information, Noriyuki orders his remaining warriors to attack the ship. Jotaro and Gennosuke are among that number.
They are in for a surprise, however, when another walker is revealed. This one, though, is unfinished. Noriyuki signals his ninja forces, headed by Chizu to begin their attack. The ninjas throw bombs at the walker, which has two goals. One, to disable it and two, to get its attention off the warriors and onto the ninjas. They lead the walker into the forest and hope it falls there. The walker manages to save itself, leaving Chizu with only one option left. The walker is then disabled and the aliens killed. Takenoko can now study the walker and hopefully figure out a way to stop the aliens.
Back at the main battlefield, Gennosuke and his men get the high ground and proceed to kill the alien invaders. The aliens fight back with their ray guns. One hits where Jotaro is standing and he slips down into the pit with them. He fights them off, but Gennosuke soon comes to help. He tells Jotaro to go while he holds them off. As Jotaro gets away, the others see all the aliens are dead. They begin to celebrate, but then see another comet fall from the sky.
The ship is heading right where Usagi and Tomoe are, the village. They cannot outrun it, so they dive into a building, hoping to avoid most of the crash. However, the mostly wooden building cannot take a metal ship crashing anywhere near it and collapses, leaving them trapped.
It’s going to be interesting to see who or what is in that second ship. Perhaps these would be friendly aliens. I like that this issue had funny moments, but also sad moments. It made the world feel even more grounded, because funny things do happen in times of great tragedy. And unlike other comics, I doubt anyone will be coming back to life.
