Review: Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li
Composer: Stephen Endelman
Label: Lakeshore

I had never heard of Stephen Endelman (Jawbreaker and Phat Girlz) before listening to this soundtrack, but this guy deserves an award for creating a soundtrack that goes far and beyond the call of duty for a movie that should never have been released in theaters.

With this soundtrack, you get almost an hour of music that matches up with the type of movie this is supposed to be – Super Action. It has all the elements needed to push you through and to each action sequence: pulse-pounding electronic rhythms, loud horn section, and those Asian-styled drum beats that bring to mind every awesome martial arts fight scene you’ve ever seen. There are even elements that feel like the video game music (which, if you’re a fan of the games, you’ll appreciate). It could have just ended there, but Endelman throws in enough expressiveness that you forget about the dead stare Kristin Kreuk’s giving you from the cover art. If you just listen to the OST itself, you could almost talk yourself into thinking that the movie might have some substance to it instead of being a bigger hot mess that the original Street Fighter movie.

It’s not something a serious music lover is going to need to go out and buy, but it certainly gives an otherwise hollow movie some heart.

About the Author
Summer has been a comic book junkie since the age of 13 when she stole her 7-year old brother's first three issues of the Claremont/Lee run of the X-Men. On his birthday. Right after he unwrapped them. It's been all downhill from then on.

Besides being way too into comics, Summer enjoys nerding out over various movies and television shows (Supernatural, Lost, and Doctor Who to mention a few), listening to music, and adding to her massive book collection.

Currently, she's looking for a college or university where she can finish her double major in Art History and Art Therapy and getting her work into various art galleries, all while trying to survive working in a cubicle jungle.
