When we last left Simon and Gwen, they were spending the night with Penelope, Gwen’s mother. Morgana has found them somehow and breaks in and begins to attack. Penelope leads the duo into a secret panic room that Merlin made. Penelope says it will take Morgana a very long time to break through all the magical barriers; however, since Morgana is almost as powerful as Merlin, it doesn’t take her that long.
Note: This recap may contain spoilers!
Simon decides to give Morgana what she really wants, but only if she lets the three of them go. Simon and Morgana swear to a truth spell, so neither can double cross the other. Morgana still is unaware of Simon’s true nature or else she never would have agreed to let him go. Since Morgana now has the upper hand, however slightly, Gwen and Simon race off to Istanbul, hoping to get ahead of her. They manage to sneak into a museum in disguise and start looking for the Stone of Giramphiel, but Morgana’s men are there as well and using magical tablets to help in the search.
Eventually, Simon uses his magic to contact Merlin and ask for help. Merlin explains that the way is not easy and that Simon must face the elements three times. The first is air, when Gwen and Simon are shut in behind a massive rock while slowly suffocating. Simon uses his magic to get them out which leads right into the second element, water.
I am really enjoying the twists and turns this comic takes. Something unexpected happens nearly every page. I also like how fast Simon’s magical powers are growing and how comfortable he is at using them. The next issue is the last and it will be interesting to see how everything is tied up. I am hoping there will be an epic magic fight at the end.
