Sons of Anarchy wrapped up its sixth season this week with a devastating finale that will pave the way to a dark final season for the hit FX series. Show creator Kurt Sutter became a household name as his modern incarnation of Hamlet gained viewers and notoriety since its debut in 2008. Imagine’s Brian Grazer had an eye on Sutter’s talent as far back as his work on The Shield and now has recruited him into The Bastard Executioner, a new series Sutter will write for FX. Set in the fourteenth century, The Bastard Executioner will be a period drama that follows a knight who has fought for King Edward III. The knight tries to leave his life of violence, only to have it draw him back with a vengeance. The likely themes of personal redemption and seeking peace through violence sound similar to notes Sutter has struck in Sons of Anarchy. Grazer and Francie Calfo will executive produce the series alongside Sutter.
