Since it’s February, we’ll start off with a mini-tribute to Valentine’s Day (sort of, anyway), then we’ll get into more really cool stuff.
“The Science Love Song” – AsapSCIENCE
This is what love is really like, if viewed from a scientific perspective. So sweet!
“Locked” – Debs & Errol
The relationship between Sherlock and Irene Adler counts as romantic, doesn’t it? In some sort of sense, anyway…
“My Almost Me” – Smashy Claw
This is sort of Valentine’s-y in that there’s a potential love story gone wrong in it. Plus the video gave me a whole new perspective on the song. No Faces unite!
“Dracarys” – Daenerys & the Targaryens
You don’t have to be a fan of Game of Thrones to appreciate this geeky punk band. Their lead singer has just the right amount of moxy to draw in anyone who loves punk rock. And if you are a fan of the show / books, then you really need to check them out. Also be sure to check out “Hound Dad.” I’m hoping to hear more from them soon, even if I don’t care for GoT.
“Leaf on the Wind” – Pangalacticats
Geekabilly band Pangalacticats bring us a song about Wash’s role in Serenity. I am a leaf on the wind, watch how I…
“Welcome to San Secuestro” – YTCracker
It wasn’t just Alpha Riff who released a cyberpunk-based album last year. YTCracker made one, too. His has more of a dystopian feel, replete with social commentary on the current state of the Internet as well as cryptography and cybersecurity.
“The Path of Prime” – Primordial Emcee
Speaking of cyberpunk, Prime’s new song and video are all about The Matrix. I’m really looking forward to hearing his album which will be released in May.
“It’s Good to Be a Geek Rap” – Loot Crate
This one was sent to us at Fandomania with no real explanation, but I gotta say that I like it. There’s a definite “Epic Rap Battles” feel to it, and while I don’t generally like those, this one works. I love the idea of the Loot Crate, but I have too much stuff around my house already that doesn’t really have anywhere to go so it just clutters up my room.
“Music Jail, Pt. 1 & 2” – They Might Be Giants
TMBG is back with Dial a Song. ‘Nuff said.
“RAGEQUIT!” – Aramis (NSFW)
I think everyone who’s ever played a video game has felt like this before. Aramis’s new album, Sleight of Hand, just came out a few weeks ago. I plan on writing up a full review soon, but I wanted to promote it now because it deserves the attention. Check out the video, then check out the full album.
Marc with a C offers a jingle to a large corporation (semi-NSFW)
With all the buzz surrounding Five Nights at Freddy’s, it’s almost surprising that there’s not more music out there about the real inspiration behind the animatronic animals in the game. Not that that’s Marc’s intention here; he’s just trying to make some cash by writing jingles.
“Another New Year” – Mikey Mason (NSFW)
Let’s close out this list with a celebration of making New Year’s resolutions. Or, rather, not making them. Because that’s just lame.
