A Serenity fan on LiveJournal went to the Hub Conventions Serenity event this past weekend and reported some interesting news from guest Ron Glass (Shepherd Book from Firefly and Serenity). Dark Horse Comics will be publishing a new comic about the character of Book, set prior to the events we’ve already seen on the screen. This is exciting news for fans, as Book is one of the most enigmatic characters of the series. The comic will be called A Shepherd’s Tale, and Ron Glass shared a few hints about it, revealed after the jump so as to avoid spoiling anybody who doesn’t want to know yet.

Green Queen on LiveJournal says that, according to Ron Glass:

1. Book found God in a soup boul.

2. Something about Book is artificial.

3. Book’s greatest victory was his worst defeat.

4. Book took the name of someone he killed.

Speculate away!

Book was a professor who developed a engine that was used in the destruction of the planet Shadow, his knowledge of engines that enabled him to assist Kaylee when preforming the Crazy Ivan. The death of a world caused him to lose all faith in humanity from which he withdrew to the monastery where he finally found a purpose and so returned to the world that he might find some way to do good in it. He confessed this to Inarra when he felt himself to be a useless failure whom has kept his secret because he feels responsible for destroying Mal’s home.
