Galactus is one of the most eagerly awaited releases in Eaglemoss’ Marvel Classic Figurines collection, and now the world devourer is finally on the market! Galactus clocks in at just under six inches tall, which is significantly larger than all the other pieces so far produced in this series. I snapped a shot of him next to one of the standard size figurines for a height comparison.
Like the rest of the set, he’s made from lead and has a black square base with the Marvel logo on the front. Galactus was packaged with an informational magazine about the character and his history in comics, along with a double sided poster with a couple of iconic images of him from the comics.
These figurines always are a great value for what they deliver. They’re basically miniature statues with a lot of cool detail, and they really look great when they are displayed together. Typically the figurines retail for less than $20, but the oversized special editions like Galactus, the Hulk, Thing, and Colossus tend to be priced a little higher. Galactus’ retail price is $38, but you probably can find him a bit more cheaply. This entire line is imported from the UK, so the prices over here tend to fluctuate a bit, depending on where you buy them.
The only downside to the Marvel Classic Figurines usually is the quality of their paint jobs. Due to their small scale, it’s hard to expect full statue quality paintwork. Every once in a while, though, you’ll run across a glaringly bad paint application that really messes the piece up. You just have to keep an eye out. I’ve been pretty lucky with my collection, and my Galactus looks good all over. The only paint missteps I’ve noticed are a smudge of purple next to his foot on the base and a little bit of overzealous shading around his face. It’s not even really noticeable when he’s on display, though, so I’m completely happy with this one and give it a big thumbs up.
