Mandi’s Top 2020 Picks

2020 has been a dumpster fire. Luckily, it did release some great entertainment to distract us. Lots of great games and shows helped see us through these dark times. Here are my picks of what helped me through 2020.

Video Games

  • Final Fantasy VI Remake: It was a beautiful game in every way and made me feel like I was 13 in the best way. It was the same great story brought to life with better sound and graphics. No more square arms! I enjoyed the expansion on the storyline. I can’t wait until the rest of the game is released.
  • Resident Evil 3 Remake: It was a year of remakes, but this one was fantastic, too. The storyline was still Jill trying to not get killed and it was great. I loved the improved graphics which made it creepier. I hope Jill gets featured in another game because I miss her.
  • Ghost of Tsushima: This gem came out of nowhere. Jin’s journey swept many gamers along in Feudal Japan. The gameplay system was fun and the storyline deep. Visually, this game brought back my memories of Japan. I am glad I did not miss out on it.
  • AC: Valhalla: So many Vikings, so much fun. I was waiting for this game all year. I loved the main character Eivor, both male and female versions. The storyline touches on my favorite branch of mythology. The mechanics were a bit frustrating, but overall a great installment of the series.

TV Shows

  • Ragnarok: This a little Netflix gem that was made so well. It is about a high school boy with a disability who discovers he is Thor’s reincarnation. The slow burn storyline is full of emotion and powerful emotions. I’m glad they are releasing S2 at some point. I have to know what happened after that last showdown.
  • The Great: I laughed so hard during this show. It was a raunchy and hilarious take on historical figures. Nicolas Hoult deserves an award for this show.  My boyfriend and I both had a great time watching this show.
  • Queen’s Gambit: Who didn’t love this show? Anya Taylor-Joy is brilliant. The storyline was different and the heroine wonderfully unique. I It was refreshing after the usual shows being released and remakes.

Movies

  • Emma: Movies took a hit this year, but I loved this one. Anya Taylor-Joy is a dazzling presence again with her version of Jane Austen’s heroine. The storyline was refreshed just enough to make it funny for modern audiences. I loved the costume design as well. I love it!
