The hiatus is over and the comic is begun again. But the future is not bright for Hazel or any of her family. I always live in hope of the happily ever after, but more and more I’m coming to terms with the fact that it’s not possible. But I sure am enjoying to journey so far.

Hazel is recounting her family’s military past, how the war between Wreath and Landfall got as big as it is. What once was a two-planet battle became the universe-wide war as more were recruited to join the fight. The sacrifice of the universe meant that everyone had a stake in the outcome, but it also allowed the planet-side civilians to go back to being disconnected. When the war’s happening somewhere else, to someone else, it’s hard to make the connection of how it might impact the individual. But Hazel knows, and her parents know, just how many sacrifices are needed in war.
We once again catch up with Dengo. He not only has Prince Robot IV’s son kidnapped, but also Hazel. The girl doesn’t seem to be harmed, at least not in the present. But her family’s fractured. Alana and Klara are both stuck on the ship, able to see Dengo and Hazel, but unable to help the little girl. But the time has come to act, because Klara is tired of waiting for Marko or anyone else to come rescue them. It’s up to her and Alana to do for themselves.
Klara’s plan of attack, though, has Alana wary. Sure, Alana could attempt to stab Dengo in the neck with a snapped-off piece of wood from the ship, but what might happen if she fails? Dengo could kill Hazel, and then kill them. Added to that, Alana is still going through withdrawal and Marko’s been gone for three months. Her life is messed up.
Meanwhile, the second part of the trio storyline are on the planet of Demimonde. Gwendolyn is searching for a cure for The Will. She has The Brand along with her, plus Sweet Boy, Lying Cat, and Sophie. There’s not much focus on them during the issue, aside from their encounter with a dragon who The Brand mistakes for a male. We leave the group behind as the dragon’s family surrounds them, putting them in mortal danger.
The other half of the fractured family, Marko, is with Prince Robot IV and Yuma. They have an uneasy alliance, all out for their own gain. Hazel mentioned that she had not seen her father for three months, and that it would be years before they see each other again. I’m sad that the separation will be prolonged for that amount of time. The core group of Hazel, Alana, and Marko was so good, and to see them dispersed is sad. Plus, Alana’s currently in danger from the arrival of the Revolution, so there’s no guarantee that Hazel will still have her mother by the time her father re-enters the picture. I’m afraid for them all. Hopefully it won’t end bloody too soon.
