Sebastian quickly became one of my favorite anime characters. I got hooked almost immediately after beginning the Kuroshitsuji (Black Butler) manga and anime. You hear so many stories about vampires, werewolves, and fairies. A good demon story is hard to find. I know good and demon are usually not in the same sentence. Sebastian is very good at being a demon. How is that? You can make the two words work.

Who is He?
Sebastian is one of the main characters in Yana Toboso’s Kuroshitsuji. The manga was made into anime and a live action film. He was played by Hiro Mizushima in the live action film. Sebastian is a demon who owns the soul of Ciel Phantomhive, a watchdog/enforcer for the queen. Sebastian follows Ciel’s orders in a twisted fashion. He keeps Ciel alive to make sure no one else gets his soul. Sebastian is one hell of a butler.

- Sebastian doesn’t morph into his full demon form because he says it is unpleasant to look at.
- Sebastian really, really loves cats.
- He claims to be responsible for the Black Plague.
- Sebastian wears white gloves to cover his Faustian contract.
Why So Crushworthy?
I want a butler like Sebastian. I don’t care if he is from Hell or not. Sebastian is sinfully amazing. Sebastian reminds me a lot of Alucard from Hellsing. He is bad, he knows it, and he has no problem showing it. Sebastian isn’t really a bad guy but he definitely isn’t good either. He does protect Ciel (for his own selfish reasons) and he helps get rid of the underworld scum. He isn’t portrayed as a villain either. He really doesn’t care about humans either way. An evil character hates someone for a reason, but Sebastian sees no reason to like or dislike humans. They are just soul food. It’s his complex character that is so intriguing. That and he can certainly make coattails looks amazing.
Sebastian brought me back to the anime world for a bit. His character was interesting enough to keep me there for a period of time. I enjoyed his smirking nonchalance greatly. He was a refreshing change from the overly energetic or super depressing anime characters that had been cropping up. He could crush you like a bug but he helps lace up Ciel’s boots without a fuss. He reminds me of less narcissistic version of Lestat. Sebastian, though a demon, certainly keeps the hot butler fantasy going. I probably would have owned several Sebastian figurines, wall scrolls, and maybe a character pillow. As it is, I am not the young otaku I once was. However, I do believe that Sebastian ranks high among the crushworthy anime crowd.
