It is not often that a soundtrack gets every song right. Usually I’ll like a few selections, skipping over others, but this time around I can honestly say that I loved every single song on the In Your Eyes soundtrack. With its combination of independent voices, reminiscent sound, and instrumental choices, it hits the perfect note and leaves me feeling happy.

The only artist from the tracks that I was familiar with prior was Iron & Wine, but I am going to be sure to look up all of the names for further musical contributions. Kicking off the tracks is Andrew Johnson, whose voice has a Bob Dylan vibe to it, with a bit more twang. And this is immediately followed by Ray Beadle’s bluesy contribution that includes an amazing guitar solo. With this strength leading it off, you know you’re in for a treat.

As mentioned prior, I was already a fan of Iron & Wine. This love continued on with this collection’s track, including the rich vocals I’ve come to love and a story that feels both old and eternal. Santigold and Opus Orange both have an independent sound that reminded me of Canadian tracks from CBC radio, and Twinbed has a breathy tone that promises a secret if you just listen closely enough. Noah Moffit’s rich voice complements Jessica Freedman’s harmony to give us a declarative song of strength. Eddie Ray gives us an old school R&B beat that takes the listener on a mental journey back in time, while Matt Anderson gives us a twangy, bluesy contribution that has an almost evangelistic feel to it.

Rounding out the collection was The Wildlife, which reminded me of both Blondie and Amanda Palmer, that confident rocker who proclaims strength through songs, and Tony Morales, who gives us an instrumental that invoked a range of emotions, from sadness to discovery to hope. A good way to sum up the entire collection.

  1. “Go Get Another Dream” by Andrew Johnson
  2. “Temptation” by Ray Beadle
  3. “Resurrection Fern” by Iron & Wine
  4. “The Riot’s Gone” by Santigold
  5. “Crumblin'” by Noah Maffit and Jessica Freedman
  6. “Trouble I’m In” by Twinbed
  7. “Glad I Found You” by Eddie Ray
  8. “In the Dark” by Opus Orange
  9. “Fired Up” by Matt Anderson
  10. “Stand in the Water” by The Wildlife
  11. “The Break Up” by Tony Morales

I am a fan of the soundtrack, so much so that I want to rush out and see the movie. This was everything I could ask for in a musical accompaniment, and I will definitely be listening to these tracks again and again. Perfect collection, perfect sounds.

About the Author
In her youth, Kimberly could be found in the library, devouring books that covered everything from WWII History to Dr. McCoy's latest adventures aboard the Enterprise, with some X-Men thrown in for good measure. Saturdays were often reserved for PBS re-runs of Doctor Who and Red Dwarf. More recently, she's been riding along with the Winchester brothers, and she hopes the Impala doesn't run out of gas for a long time.
