It’s a good thing Circuit City is going out of business, because the stores’ liquidation prices made it possible for me afford to buy Supernatural: Season 3 on DVD. This, in turn, prevented the CW from having to deal with an overly irate Supernatural fan—one who is sick and tired of waiting for the rest of season 4 to magically appear during the show’s usual Thursday night time slot.
See, I’m just a fool. A fool who believed the television ads that said “Supernatural returns January 15th on the CW”. I thought that meant that starting on January 15th, the CW would play the rest of Supernatural season 4. Oh, how wrong I was.
On January 15th, Supernatural did indeed return to the CW after its eight-week holiday hiatus. “Family Remains” aired that week, followed by my favorite episode title of all time, “Criss Angel is a Douche Bag” on Jan. 22nd, “After School Special” on January 29th, and finally “Sex and Violence” on February 5th. But as soon as I was warm and comfy in my returned Thursday evening Supernatural ritual, I was left high and dry watching reruns of this season’s early episodes.
It’s been four weeks since the CW has played a new episode of Supernatural. Like I said, it’s a really good thing that Circuit City went out of business and I was able to buy Season 3 on DVD. If I didn’t have the handful of episodes from last season that I missed to tide me over, I might’ve gone insane by now.
By the time the next season 4 episode of Supernatural airs on March 12th, a full five weeks will have passed between “Sex and Violence” and “Death Takes a Holiday”. Now, before you start making all those annoyingly valid points like “It’s just a television show” and “You need to relax,” let me put things into perspective for you.
In the five week period between season 4 episodes 14 and 15, I: turned 23, planned a trip to New Orleans, crashed my car in a snow storm, took that car to a mechanic and paid $1400 for a new axle and some other bits and pieces, saw a pre-Broadway show, signed up for and completed a 10-hour gun safety course, celebrated two friends’ birthdays, got the flu, recovered from the flu, got a sinus infection, went through two courses of antibiotics and recovered from that sinus infection, and by March 12th I will have seen the theatrical release of each of the three movies featuring Supernatural’s three male leads (My Bloody Valentine: 3-D, Friday the 13th, and Watchmen).
Now you go ahead and give me one good reason why I had to be deprived of the Winchester boys for five weeks, especially after I already suffered through the show’s eight-week holiday break. Yeah, I can’t think of any good reasons why, either.
