Best known as the enigmatic Mr. Roarke from Fantasy Island and as Khan from the original Star Trek TV series and the Star Trek II film, Ricardo Montalban has passed away at the age of 88. Born in Mexico City as Ricardo Gonzalo Pedro Montalbán Merino, he had his first leading role in 1949’s Border Incident. He went on to create the iconic character Khan Noonien Singh on Star Trek in 1967, star in Fantasy Island from 1978 to 1984, and reprise his role as Khan in 1982’s Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan. Montalban’s final film appearance was providing the voice of the head of the council in 2006’s The Ant Bully, prior to which he appeared as the grandfather in 2003’s Spy Kids 3D. His last TV roles were providing voicework as Señor Senior Sr. in Kim Possible from 2002 to 2007 and as The Cow in a 2008 episode of Family Guy.
Yeah… I predict a Star Trek II showing at the House of Croom this weekend. That is the one Trek movie Shannon truly *likes* – in large part due to his amazing performance.
