Top 5 Movies to Watch When the Weather Outside is Frightful

As the year winds down, it’s getting chillier and busier. Here are the top 5 movies that you could watch when the weather outside is frightful or when you need a break from the stress of the holidays.

5. The Year Without Santa Claus

This was my favorite of the Rankin/Bass holiday films. It’s not very long, only forty-eight minutes, but the songs are awesome and it’s hard to forget the Heat and Snow Miser.

4. Sherlock Holmes

The new Sherlock Holmes movie comes out on the 16th, so it’d be nice to re-watch the first movie. The antics of Robert Downey, Jr. playing Sherlock should keep you entertained even through a blizzard.

3. Monty Python and the Holy Grail

If you have never seen Monty Python and the Holy Grail, then you need to. It’s funny, nonsensical, and thoroughly entertaining for all ages.

2. The Princess Bride

I just watched this again (for possible the 100th time) and it’s still a great movie, on that everyone should watch if they don’t want to go outside. It has fighting, damsels in distress, humor, serious moments, and kissing.

1. The Lord of the Rings Trilogy

If the weather outside is frightful, I can’t think of a better movie to watch. The two-disc DVDs of each movie in the trilogy are enough for hours of entertainment, but add in the four-disc box sets and a you should be set for the whole month.

About the Author
From a young age, Nikki would read any book placed in front of her and has always had an interest in writing. She saw Sailor Moon, Red Dwarf, and Highlander (to name a few shows) on TV and they got her more interested in anime and sci-fi, which led to fantasy, her favorite genre. Right now Nikki is devouring anything Middle Earth related and has very much fallen in love with Tolkien's world. Nikki plays a lot of video games ranging from Final Fantasy to Mass Effect to Assassin's Creed III. Nikki has also written her first book! You can find it here if you're interested. She is currently planning another novel.
