Action! Adventure! Aliens! What else could you ask for from a Farscape comic? Pop culture references? They’re in there too. With issue number eight, the comic keeps the heart of the TV show pumping.
Continuing the cliffhanger ending from the last issue, this one picks up with a gunfight with the Grennij. The Grennij are those not-so-lovable aliens who first showed up in the Scorpius ongoing series (I wonder where this is headed? <–sarcasm). It goes from there to a couple of big space battles with some Kkore ships (also introduced in the Scorpius comic).
The plot in this issue feels a lot like the final act in a kinda crappy episode of the show (not “I, E.T.” bad, just kinda crappy). It just feels like they had to wrap the story up in this issue and left some details out. In its defense, the issue ends on a positive note with the lead-in for the next storyline.
The art is really uneven. In close ups of characters, it has a great amount of detail, but in the distance, it’s bland and the coloring looks like it was done with Microsoft Paint (on Windows 3.1). It’s not the first time I’ve noticed coloring issues with the Farscape line. Perhaps it’s time for a change?
This issue is not the best thing to come out of the Farscape universe, obviously, but it’s nowhere near the worst (I will save that for one of the Farscape novels that confused Moya with Lexx). Even the crappy episodes of Farscape are still better the majority of sci-fi television out there (especially after season one), and the same goes for the comic. If you’re a fan check it out, but this might not be the best story to start off with.
