The big superhero movie news of the week is that Spider-Man 4, recently pushed back due to script problems, now has been canceled entirely. Star Tobey Maguire and director Sam Raimi both have left the project, and all indications are that Sony will be rebooting the Spider-Man franchise in 2012 with a younger, teenage Peter Parker in a darker and edgier world. Variety reports that the script for the new Spidey film already has been written by James Vanderbilt (Zodiac) and has been sitting around, just waiting to be made. AICN, meanwhile, reports that Sam Raimi is moving on from Spider-Man to produce his epic fantasy film set in the Warcraft universe. I have a feeling one or two fans might be looking forward to that one.

Woo hoo! Raimi WoW!
After the train-wreck that was Spider-Man 3, this was necessary. Sorry Toby, but you never were a cool Spidey, and the emo scene totally killed any sliver of credibility you ever had…and who the hell cast Topher Grace as Venom? I mean, really…Topher Grace???
