Soundtrack: TRON: Uprising
Composer: Joseph Trapanese
Label: Walt Disney Records
Release Date: January 8, 2013

There are three things about TRON: Uprising that make it epic: great voice talent, excellent animation, and — most relevant to this post — the soundtrack. I remember watching the pilot and thinking to myself: “Self, this is a really great animated show. It’s got great storytelling, excellent characterization, and the animated chicks are totally hot. But there’s something else. What is it about this show that is so good only my subconscious knows what it is?”

Then it hit me. It’s the music.

If you are a DJ, then in addition to your two turntables and a microphone, you’ll want this CD. It’s an excellent foundation for your remixes and transitions. Especially if you want people on the dance floor to start looking around and start wondering when Batman is going to show up and snarl at people.

“Beck’s Theme” and “Tesler Throwdown” are especially epic feeling, and they have the repetive theme that is incorporated (with variations, of course) into some of the other tracks. A bunch of the tracks, such as “Paige’s Past”, “Lux’s Sacrifice”, and “Tron’s Promise (Scars Suite)” have more mellow, foreboding feel to them. The remixes by 3OH!3, Opiuo, and David Hiller offer a bit of variety, as well.

Here’s my three-step suggestion for epic geek iPod partying:

  1. Get this soundtrack and put it on shuffle.
  2. Invite a combination of Matrix, TRON, and Blade Runner fans.
  3. Turn down the lights and play an awesome laser show in your living room.
