Four issues of The Walking Dead have fallen into my lap, folks, and I am ready to tell you about them. If you recall, at the end of #119, Negan had shown up, unleashing kidnapped Holly to our protagonists. Rick was ready to talk. Everything was going to work out.
Note: This recap may contain spoilers!
Unfortunately, Holly had been turned, and on the first page of #120, she sinks her teeth into resident doctor Denise. Denise’s boyfriend, Heath, gets hit with a grenade immediately following this, one leg being completely blown off. And Negan doesn’t stop there — he continues to pelt the group with explosives.
Houses around the perimeter are destroyed, causing everyone to scatter to safety. The Saviors are unaware, however, that Dwight is no longer on their side. As we’ve seen over the last year, his allegiance to Negan is no longer. He turns on his former fellow men, killing them and stating he will tell his leader that they were attacked.
Andrea and Carl attempt to find a safe place, meeting up with Rick along the way. Explosions erupt again, and Carl is burned to the point that his father rushes him to Denise, who is closing up Heath’s amputated limb. Despite having being bitten, she has refused to have her arm severed simply so she can perform the surgery to save his life.
And what is Negan doing this whole time? Talking the talk, of course. The f-word-wielding bastard is outside the grounds, excited about what is happening. He doesn’t anticipate the amount of fight he is going up against, though. The Saviors retreat just as Maggie arrives from the Hilltop. She is in charge there, now. After they discuss what has just happened, Rick collapses.
The issue ends with Negan refusing to say they have retreated, as the damage they’ve done isn’t fixable. The majority of houses are in flames, and there are no fire trucks to save them. The smoke means they’ve won.
Oh, Negan. Your speeches are becoming a wee bit repetitive. Yet, the amount of action in this issue definitely is better than all of the talk we have had in “All Out War”. Three more issues to catch you up on, folks, stay tuned!
