It is time to give the ladies their due. A few months ago, I wrote an article about actors in sci-fi and fantasy series with the best accents. I want to be fair to the sexes so it’s time for the female version. These ladies are a pleasure to listen to when they talk. Here are my top five picks in no particular earlier.
1. Rose Leslie (Game of Thrones, Downton Abbey)
Rose has no trouble telling Jon Snow he knows nothing in her delightful Scottish accent. Before her role as Ygritte on GoT, she played a maid on Downton Abbey. I enjoyed listening to her accent even then. I seriously have a soft spot for Scottish accents.
2. Jaime Murray (Warehouse 13, Defiance)
There nothing like a sexy lady with a nice accent. Jaime Murray’s English accent has been gracing us on the Syfy channel for a few years now. Her crisp accent makes you think of Bond ladies and everything wonderful about femme fatales.
3. Marion Cotillard (The Dark Knight Rises, Inception)
Oui, there is something delightful about listening to a French accent. Marion is becoming very popular stateside. I thought her character was great in The Dark Knight Rises. She is a great actress who I hope we will be seeing more of — particularly in roles that showcase that amazing accent.
4. Keira Knightley (Pirates of the Caribbean, King Arthur)
I am a huge fan of Keira and her accent. She and I are the same age so I have always been fascinated by her. Her accent makes me think of Jane Austen heroines — of which Keira has been one. I am glad they don’t make her cover up the accent in most of her movie roles.
5. Cate Blanchett (The Lord of the Rings, How to Train Your Dragon 2)
When I listen to Cate Blanchett speak, the world “elegant” comes to mind. Her accent is just simply beautiful. Her elegance and acting skills just enhance the elegance of her speech. I love her Galadriel role where her accent is worthy of an elven queen.
