We’ve known for a while that MTV was eyeing Terry Brooks’ Shannara series of fantasy novels for a TV series adaptation, and now more details have surfaced. This week the network greenlighted the series, simply titled Shannara, for a ten episode first season. Jon Favreau originally was named as the director of the pilot episode, but now Jonathan Liebesman will be the director for the first two episodes. Liebesman also is directing the upcoming Michael Bay-produced Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles big-screen adaptation.
EW reports that the TV series will base its first season on The Elfstones of Shannara, the second book in the series, which originally released in 1982. Smallville‘s Al Gough and Miles Millar are set to write and produce the TV show, with author Terry Brooks serving as an executive producer.
