Earlier this month, audiences were laughing out loud at the new comedy Bridesmaids. The film centers around a group of bridesmaids who take a hilarious adventure towards the altar. But fans don’t have to leave the memories behind once they leave the theatre. Instead, pick up the soundtrack which boasts artists such as Wanda Jackson, Blondie, and Kate Nash, and you can relive those movie moments again and again.

Anyone who has read my music reviews knows that I adore when well-known artists and songs are included on soundtracks. With that in mind, of course I loved this album! I was taken back to my youth and, yes, I was singing along to each and every song. “Hold On” by Wilson Phillips is a classic for the children of the ’90s, so it seemed fitting that it was featured for the movie. And we move from that blast from the past to one of the strongest women of rock, Blondie, with her classic “Rip Her to Shreds.” If you’re going to talk trash, it’s always a pleasure to have Blondie do it for you. She is perfectly paired with Hole’s “Violet” as the shouts of strong women ring out.

Fiona Apple gets to take a turn on the album with her song “Paper Bag” as does Kate Nash with “Do Wah Doo.” I’m a fan of both of these female artists, so it’s always nice to hear them included up against some of the powerhouses of music. And you’ll be tempted to get up on the dance floor when Britney Spears’s “I’ve Just Begun (Having My Fun)” comes up on the track list. There are also a number of songs included that are exclusive to this soundtrack. They include the live version of “Rip Her To Shreds” by Blondie, “It’s Raining” by Inara George, and “Boogaloo Annie” by Michael Andrews.

So, to say I enjoyed this album would be an understatement. Whether you watch the movie first and want to relive it, or you are simply a fan of great music, you will never regret picking up this soundtrack. I think I’ll go listen again right now!

About the Author
In her youth, Kimberly could be found in the library, devouring books that covered everything from WWII History to Dr. McCoy's latest adventures aboard the Enterprise, with some X-Men thrown in for good measure. Saturdays were often reserved for PBS re-runs of Doctor Who and Red Dwarf. More recently, she's been riding along with the Winchester brothers, and she hopes the Impala doesn't run out of gas for a long time.
