Since 2001, ThinkGeek has made a tradition of posting fake products on April Fool’s Day which are not actually available for purchase. However, some of their ideas have been so awesome that, upon popular request, they’ve become reality. One example is 2007’s 8-bit Tie. This past April 1st, there was an even more amazing (at least for Star Wars geeks) faux product “announced” — the Tauntaun Sleeping Bag — and it, too, is now a reality.
It’s a great homage to the famous scene in The Empire Strikes Back when Han Solo saves Luke from freezing to death by enveloping him in the carcass of a dead tauntaun. The clever folks at ThinkGeek Labs have left no detail out, from the saddle to the quadruple nostrils to the intestine-print interior. Plus, the zipper pull is a plush lightsaber! Luckily, the notorious tauntaun carcass odor has not been replicated.
The Tauntaun Sleeping Bag is an official Star Wars product, licensed by Lucasfilm, and is available exclusively through ThinkGeek. It’s currently up for preorder at $99.99 and is set to ship by November 30.
