January 6th saw big wins of the 36th Annual People’s Choice Awards going to the vampires. Four trophies went to Twilight, including “favorite movie, franchise, and on-screen team for the dreamy trio of Robert Pattinson, Kristen Stewart and Taylor Lautner, who also picked up the breakout male actor award,” reports Associated Press.

True Blood (HBO) and The Vampire Diaries (CW) won Favorite TV Obsession and Fave New TV Drama.

Lady Gaga is a vamp and not a vampire, but she won Favorite Pop and Breakout Music Artist anyway.

Along with her fourth stint of hosting, Queen Latifah spoofed Twilight and Paranormal Activity.

Other TV awards went to American Idol, Glee, Steve Carell, Alyson Hannigan, The Big Bang Theory, House, Hugh Laurie, and Supernatural. Movie winners were Sandra Bullock, Hugh Jackman, The Proposal, and Up.

Johnny Depp got a special award for Favorite Movie Actor of the Decade, telling the audience, “The only reason that any of us are up here is because of you.”

Internet voters gave their award nods to Taylor Swift, Ellen DeGeneres, Ashton Kutcher, Keith Urban, Mariah Carey, and Carrie Underwood. This was Ellen DeGeneres’s 11th win, making her the People’s Choice Awards champion.

About the Author
Maggie Van Ostrand is ashamed to not be a geek, but she’s proud to have once attended a Star Trek convention where Bill Shatner spoke to her. He said “Hi. Are you anybody?” Maggie graduated from college so long ago, she can’t remember the name of it but thinks it was somewhere in New York. She majored in stuff that has nothing to do with anything she does today, except the classes she audited at the AFI. She knows little or nothing about comic book characters unless they’re drawn by Robert Crumb. She knows nothing of gaming outside of Vegas, and still thinks Moonlight was way better than True Blood. She is here because she reminds the publisher of his grandmother and he felt sorry for her. Her favorites are anything by Billy Wilder, Godfather I and II, Lawrence of Arabia, & Young Frankenstein. She writes political satire for Huffington Post, was head writer for movie trivia TV show; writes a column about Old West characters; was TV comedy ghostwriter; humor columnist for newspapers and online publications, and other boring stuff.
