So, let’s keep getting caught up on the many, many videos that have come out in recent months. (See here for Part One.)
“The Star Wars Jitters Song” – Robot Chicken
This perfectly captures exactly how I (and probably most people of my generation) feel about the upcoming Star Wars movies. Of course Seth Green would get it.
“Rumspringa” – Doctor Popular
I don’t know why I don’t feature more Doc Pop on here. His newest album is definitely up there in my favorites for 2014, and it may well even end up on my final list. Meanwhile, check out this video.
“Right Here with You” – Paul and Storm
Paul and Storm are stalkers. And the world definitely needs more stalker songs…
“Fancy Shoes” – Steam Powered Giraffe
Hatchworth has some fancy shoes, but it doesn’t matter if he doesn’t have the right words or the right friends. Seems like an appropriate metaphor for life to me.
“Ego Death” – Busdriver feat. Aesop Rock and Danny Brown (NSFW)
It’s the video for this song that most fits this list, with its dystopian future. And Busdriver is sort of nerdcore-adjacent, with his recent appearance on MC Frontalot’s newest album. Besides, I really love his stuff so I’ll take any excuse to promote it.
“Wikipedia Dis Raps” – David Malki
Cartoonist David Malki hit the random button and Wikipedia and made up a dis rap about the topic he encountered. It’s pretty much as weird as you’d expect given the premise.
“Stupid and Weird” – Math the Band (NSFW)
The video for the title track of Math the Band’s newest album matches the crazy, frenetic pace of the music. It’s a perfect visual cornucopia of weird images. Love it!
“Power Ups” – Sammus (NSFW)
I’m kind of surprised that I didn’t mention this song back when I reviewed the album. It’s a really good one, with a really positive metaphor as its central idea. And Sammus finally gets to rock an arm cannon.
“EWI” – Moon Hooch
Ever since their appearance at Nerdapalooza 2012, I’ve really grown to love Moon Hooch’s music. Their latest album explores new directions, including the use of electronic instruments like the EWI while still maintaining their mostly acoustic version of EDM / dubstep. Plus the video for this song is really fun.
“Nikola Tesla Dood” – Sarah Donner and The Oatmeal
Because Tesla is awesome. ‘Nuff said!
Great list! That Moon Hooch video was amazing!
@Doctor Popular: I know, right? Thanks for commenting, BTW. :)
