For the past few years, GI Joe comics have seen a resurgence in popularity due to the recent series and mini-series published by Devil’s Due. With the current run of GI Joe: America’s Elite wrapping, the Real American Hero is jumping ship and swimming over to its new publisher, IDW. IDW already has the Transformers comics license and has seen huge success there, so they’re no strangers to the retro-cool genre. Current plans for GI Joe include:

  • A monthly GI Joe Vs Cobra series beginning in October 2008
  • Comic and graphic novel adaptations of the GI Joe movie, coming in late summer 2009
  • Reprints of classic GI Joe comics, most likely from its run with Marvel
