It’s Thanksgiving, and whether you’re the one cooking or just sampling the provisions, the kitchen is the place to be. It’s with that in mind that this week’s Fandomestic highlights ten ways to show your geek pride in the kitchen.
1. Blue Sun Apron
Ah, Blue Sun.. the ultimate in corporate ubiquity. It’s easy to imagine this apron made by J9Crafts is an actual Blue Sun issue. Surely they have at least one hanging in Serenity’s galley.
2. The Star Wars Cookbook
When you get a craving for Qui-Gon Jinn-ger Snaps or Boba Fett-Uccine, this two-volume cookbook available from ThinkGeek will send you on the path to light.
3. Wonder Woman Apron
For a swap on Craftster, Stacy made this apron based on Wonder Woman’s costume, complete with the Lasso of Truth.
4. Space Invaders Cutting Board
This handmade wooden cutting board, created by Etsy user 1337MOTIF, has that 8-bit geek vibe while still maintaining a very classic look that wouldn’t seem out of place in a gourmet kitchen. Also available at the Etsy store is a Triforce version!
5. Spock Apron
NixArmageddon at Craftster turned a simple t-shirt into this Spock apron for her boyfriend. Not shown: hand-embroidered Starfleet emblem pockets.
6. R2-D2 Pepper Mill
Navigation, projection, extinguishing fires — is there anything this adorable little droid can’t do? He can now add pepper-grinding to his list of many talents, thanks to this pepper mill at ThinkGeek.
7. Cooking Mama Apron
I haven’t actually played Cooking Mama (yet!) but apparently in the game, when you fail a step of a recipe a graphic of Mama with the quote “Don’t worry, Mama will fix it” appears. Rae at Crafterbation hand-cut felt appliqués based on the graphic and placed them on a handmade gingham apron as a gift for a friend.
8. Buffy The Vampire Slayer Apron
Craftster member hippiejo74 found a Buffy curtain panel on eBay and turned it into an awesome apron as part of a Buffyverse swap. I can just see Andrew wearing it as he makes a funnel cake.
9. Tetris Tile Backsplash
If you like your geekery to be a bit more subtle, this Tetris tile backsplash might be for you. The “bricks” come in practically every color to match any decor.
10. Darth Vader Toaster
Darth Vader might not be a Cylon, but he does have his own toaster. The toast, part of any Sith’s complete breakfast, will pop out of the Vaderesque appliance bearing the face of the Dark Lord. Appropriately, you can determine whether the toast will follow the path of light or dark with the simple turn of a dial!
