Star Wars: The Force Awakens has taken the whole world by storm. The movie has delighted fans, new and old, and brought new life back into the fandom. From the visual effects to the amazing storyline, the movie was a winner. Additionally, not only did the movie bring back beloved characters from the original films, but it introduced an extraordinary cast of new characters. And to me, no one was more crushworthy than the leading lady.
Some Spoilers Ahead!
Who is She?
Rey is one of the main protagonists in the film and she is played by Daisy Ridley. Rey starts out as your average scavenger trying to make a living on Jakku. Her life takes a dramatic turn after she finds the BB-8 droid in the desert. Rey is a tough cookie who doesn’t want to depend on anyone. She is also mechanically inclined and never goes down without a fight.
Fun Fact:
Rey’s origins are subject to great debate. Some people speculate she is either Obi-Wan’s granddaughter or Luke Skywalker’s daughter.
Why So Crushworthy?
Rey is a smart, honest, and morally upright girl. She has learned to survive alone as she waits for the return of her parents. This gives her a continual sense of hope. Her solitude makes her wary of trusting others, but with BB-8 and Finn, she’s willing to help people (or droids) in need. Rey’s independence makes her strong but also eager to form a bond with others. Her friendships with Finn and Han Solo give her the companionship she always wanted. Rey is up to any and all challenges. After her initial reluctance to be involved with The Force, she meets her new fate with courage and determination.
I also like that Rey’s portrayal as a smart engineer was not in the service of making the men look smarter. Many female scientists and engineers play second fiddle to their male counterparts. Rey saved the day many times with her tech knowledge. I also love Rey’s butt-kicking skills. She showed her enemies a thing or two. Rey picks up fighting skills like a natural. Although she shows her emotions, she keeps a cool head during a crisis. Rey is a character that I supported throughout the whole film. She is a good role model for girls who see this movie. To me, she easily led the entire film. Rey is crushworthy in the best way possible.
