I decided to end the Halloween crushes on a bloody note. I have a thing for vampires. Just not the sparkly teenage kind. I decided to go back to the first vampire I read about and got a crush on.
Anne Rice changed up the world of vampires. She made them elegant and beautiful. She made us sympathize with them instead of fear them. She made hordes of people go to New Orleans seeking her vampires. Her greatest creation, in my opinion, was the vampire Lestat. I hope you enjoy the last of the Halloween themed crushes!
Stats:
Full Name: Lestat de Lioncourt
Age: 253 and counting
Occupation: Vampire, actor, musician
Who is He?
Lestat was created by Anne Rice and first appeared in Interview with the Vampire in 1976. He was the vampire that turned its hero Louis into a vampire. He later became the main character in the majority of the The Vampire Chronicles. He was played by Tom Cruise and Stuart Townsend in two separate films. There is also a musical about Lestat that appeared on Broadway.
Sanguine Facts:
- Anne Rice stated that Lestat was based on her husband, Stan Rice.
- Lestat’s first vampire fledgling was his own mother, Gabrielle.
- Lestat is called the Brat Prince by his fellow vampires.
- Lestat can survive exposure to the sun after drinking ancient vampire blood.
- Lestat was the lone breadwinner of his family before being turned. Most of his family sat around and complained they weren’t rich anymore.
Why is He Crushworthy?
What can I say? Lestat is the coolest of all vampires. Slide over, Bill and Eric! Lestat is great in so many ways. He embraced being a vampire. He saw the world as a savage garden for him to play in. Lestat didn’t have limits. He wanted to be a stage actor in Paris, so he ran off and joined an acting troupe. He wanted to be a rockstar so he started his own band. He doesn’t sit around and mope about his immortality. He did go into a catatonic sleep once but I can forgive that. I mean, he did travel with the devil. That would probably take the spirit out of anyone. Lestat lives life to the fullest, pulse or no pulse. Many of his fellow immortals felt like eternity was a punishment or something to be endured. That wasn’t the case for Lestat. He saw it as his biggest adventure.
Lestat is a total charmer. Men and women both were always falling in love with him. He is just as guilty for being a Casanova. He even seduced a nun during his stint possessing a human body. He is not someone you let around your son or daughter. If Lestat were real and knocked on my door, I would let him in. It doesn’t help that he is very good looking and proud of it. I like his confidence. Lestat manages to grab the sympathy of readers. He makes sure you know what he is thinking and feeling. Yes, I know he is fictional and it’s Anne Rice’s genius I am reading; yet, anytime I read the books I felt like Lestat was real and he was talking to me. I’ve read and or watched many vampire stories since The Vampire Chronicles. The closest I found like him was Jean Claude from the Anita Blake series. Or maybe Eric Northman. But I still don’t think any vampire can hold a candle to Lestat.

Me encanta Lestat y todo lo que describen es cierto uno queda cautivada por su hermosura su encanto por su forma de ser su seguridad son tantas cosas que no terminaría de describir y estoy en espera de que se publique en octubre su libro :)
I love Lestat, he really jumps out of the pages… If I close my eyes I can see him during all his adventures in Paris and New Orleans! And you got the point: Anne Rice is a wonderful author and I like that her vampires have conscience and feel alone, sad, cursed but… after some time all that whining is boring, I mean… you are forever Young and immortal, if you are old enough you don’t even have to kill anymore… do something! And Lestat does: he plays, loves, acts and gets what all he wants but at the same time he doesn’t lack depth of feeling, love for art, spirituality and concern…but he can’t help being himself and I really love him for it. I think I could be an easy victim of all his French charm… other vampires are but imitations.
