It was many years ago during high school when a group of girls decided not to study or pay attention in class and work on a giant fanfiction instead. They combined their own original characters with those of anime and games. The plot was like a soap opera action film. It was fun, though it caused us to get in trouble a few times. The anime Gundam Wing figured largely into this creation. My character, Kosetsu, was teamed up with Heero Yuy. He was my biggest anime crush in my otaku past.

Stats:

Full Name: Heero Yuy
Age: 15 at the beginning of Gundam Wing
Occupation: Gundam pilot

Who is He?

Heero Yuy was one of five main Gundam pilots in the anime Gundam Wing. He was known as Zero One. He was trained to be a killer since he was small and really didn’t know how to be anything else. He saved Earth a few times along the way. He may not have been the nicest Gundam pilot but was the most awesome.

Fun Facts:

  1. Heero didn’t know that the man who trained him to be an assassin was actually his father.
  2. Heero’s Japanese voice actor was a woman.
  3. Heero’s catchphrase is “Omae o korosu!” In English, that is “I’ll kill you”.
  4. The first Gundam pilot he met was Duo Maxwell.
  5. The author of this piece had a Heero Yuy birthday cake when she turned 15.

Why So Crushworthy?

Heero really solidified my fondness for stoic, badass characters. Heero Yuy was quiet and deadly. I liked his human moments that showed through in between fighting and trying to blow himself up. To use my teenage language, “Heero was so hot and cool!” My high school experience revolved around anime and Heero Yuy especially. I wanted a Heero Yuy to burst into my high school and scare off bullies. It was an ongoing fantasy of mine. Anyway, back to reasons why Heero Yuy is so crushworthy.

Heero was this young kid in a spandex shorts charged with a big mission. There was nothing fifteen years old about him. He is the type of character you want to take to an amusement park to get them to cheer up. Heero changed people after meeting them. Zechs Marquise’s life was never the same after that first battle with Heero. Duo wanted a bromance with him. Relena became an annoying stalker. Heero had the power of influence even though he didn’t realize it. I wanted to have that silent charisma. Heero was good looking to my anime loving eyes. Yes, the spandex was bit much but I thought him the most handsome of the pilots. I loved his Prussian blue eyes. The crush on Heero drowned my crush on Tuxedo Mask. Who needed roses when you have giant mecha?
