The Magicians on SyFy offers viewers a complex and interesting cast of characters. I believe there is a character for everyone to get behind on this show. Of course, I always seem to either fall for the underdog or the character with dazzling charisma. Also, this show made me realize I have a fondness for male wizards/magicians/warlocks with a certain joie de vivre and excellent fashion sense. I hope you enjoy this month’s Crushworthy installment and the new style.
Who Is He?
Eliot Waugh is a powerful physical (class) magician in Lev Grossman and Syfy’s The Magicians. Eliot becomes the king of Fillory and the wit behind the group of Magicians. Eliot tries to play everything off, but he hides his pain behind laughter. However, his charisma and fashion sense add color to an already magical world. He is played by Hale Appleman on the show.
Fun Fact:
Eliot helped summon a magic Djinn when he tried to make magic gin.
Why So Crushworthy?
Eliot reminds me a great deal of Magnus Bane. It was likely inevitable that I would get a crush on him. Eliot’s merits are enough to recommend them. I like both sides of his personality. One one hand, you have a dynamic magician with a hedonistic streak. He has a quip for any occasion. Furthermore, even though he tries to hide it, he has a heroic streak. He complains about getting involved but has no issues jumping into the fray. On the other hand, Eliot deals with severe depression through less than healthy ways. I can relate to him on this score. He has magical abilities, but his emotions are entirely human. Eliot is both the light and the dark. His complexity is another point towards his character.
Eliot is not always the kindest character on the show. However, it’s mostly just a wall to protect himself. With the exception of Margo, he’s experienced bullying and betrayal most of his life. You slowly see him connect with the other characters and become less defensive. He even takes on his destiny as King to help defeat the Beast. Eliot reminds me of a butterfly. He has cocooned himself in alcohol and magic to avoid facing his pain. However, imagine what will happen when he breaks free. I’m Team Eliot all the way.
