It’s time to move on from witches to werewolves. I’ve always like the werewolf myths. This time, choosing a werewolf was hard. I had about six listed to write about. Some were pretty unknown, and I can always get to those later. I decided to go with True Blood’s hunky werewolf, Alcide. You can’t go wrong with a 6′ 5″ built-like-a-brick-house lycanthrope. There are some series spoilers so be warned.
Stats:
Full name: Alcide Herveaux
Age: Early 30s
Occupation: Contractor, ex-packmaster
Who is He?
Alcide made his first appearance in season three of True Blood. He was ordered by Eric Northman to protect Sookie. He is played by Joe Manganiello. Alcide is a werewolf with his own set of crazy problems — well, everyone on True Blood has insane issues. He has to deal with his old pack and his crazy ex-fiancée Debbie. He later becomes another love interest for Sookie, which is never safe to be.
Furry Facts:
- The name Alcide is a French version of a Greek name. It means “strong man”. Very appropriate, I think.
- Alcide’s father is played by Robert Patrick. He is famous for his other sci-fi roles on The X-Files and Terminator 2: Judgment Day.
- The day Alcide finally got to third base with Sookie is the day she threw up all over him.
- The real wolf who plays Alcide is named Thunder.
- A werewolf must eat the flesh of the defeated to become leader of the pack.
Why is He Crushworthy?
Look at the man. He is a fine specimen of male flesh. He is not a skinny vampire; he is a fully muscled werewolf. It was kind of hard finding a safe-for-work clip to put on here. He is so darn good looking. (Ahem, please excuse me.) But Alcide has more good qualities that just his looks. He is actually a nice guy when he is not around other werewolves. He tried really hard to stay away from the blood and guts life of being in a werewolf pack. He just wanted to be left alone to do his contract work. Of course, he gets dragged into all sorts of messes when he is ordered to protect Sookie and takes that job very seriously. Alcide is a very loyal guy, a rare quality in the True Blood universe. He takes it hard when that trust is betrayed. He also has respect for women. This makes him a big softie. This is the Alcide outside of the pack. The pack master Alcide is a mean, lean fighting machine. It made him a real jerk — power corrupts and all that. Yet he had the integrity to turn his back on it all and become a good guy again.
Another good thing to note: he is the one man who doesn’t want Sookie’s blood. Everyone wanting Sookie for her blood got really annoying. He just wanted a relationship. He had to get over her shooting his crazy ex-fiancée, but he earned that relationship. Sookie may not be normal but she is much better than some of the other crazies he was around. I think he treated her better than Bill or Eric did. Poor Alcide. Good guys don’t always finish last! I am an Eric fan but Alcide is a close second. He definitely earns the title of crushworthy. Now let me go back to staring at his abs.
