Studio-publicist-turned-producer Pete Smith catapulted to national fame as a narrator for the MGM short subjects created under his aegis such as the “Dogville” comedies. Recognizing that Smith was now a name in comedy in his own right, the Pete Smith Specialty series was launched and over the next two decades, Smith lent his signature arch comedic tone to short subjects that ranged from “Animal Antics,” to home life advice from the LA Examiner’s Penny Prudence, to “Football Thrills” and “What’s Your I.Q.?” quiz shows, and even the occasional, more sober “Serious Topics”.
