Angel’s still dealing with the Hellmouth, so we’re once again focused on the ones left behind – Fred, Gunn, Spike, and Lilith. I’m looking forward to seeing the team working closely together as they embark on this newest mission.
Note: This recap may contain spoilers!
Fred’s not having a good day. First she’s experiencing very disturbing nightmares where it’s clear she’s destined for evil, or so her subconscious says. When she awakens, reality isn’t much better. She’s been kidnapped and is currently in a helicopter flying to who knows where. The only clue she gets is from her traveling companion, a woman named Lilah Morgan, being a bit ominous mentioning some male figure who loved Fred most. That’s an unsettling prospect, to be sure.
When they arrive, Lilah tempts Fred with information. She claims that their group is the one who allowed Angel to save Fred, so in turn they were responsible for saving her. And Lilah knows of Fred’s true potential. The young woman is special, an untapped source of power, and Lilah can help her learn just how powerful she actually is. That is because Lilah is part of Wolfram and Hart. The lure might prove to be too much for Fred, but we’ll have to see if she takes the bait.
As Fred’s dealing with her unwanted transportation and the revelation of her potential future, Gunn and Spike are arguing with each other over the fact Fred got kidnapped. Lilith is trying her best to mediate and keep them focused, and she’s one to be respected. We learn that Fred was taken by some cultists who believe that she’s the vessel of their “benefactor,” the Baphomet. This is apparently a myth made real and it’s up to Spike and Gunn to retrieve Fred and keep her safe. I am loving this version of Spike, by the way! Hoping to see more of him, separate from Drusilla’s control. I’m also happy we got to meet Lorne. Bring on the well-loved characters!
I’m looking forward to seeing where the storyline goes. With Angel out of the picture at the moment, the concentration on Spike, Gunn, Fred, and others can allow us to explore who they are and what they might become. I do hope Fred doesn’t get pulled into Wolfram and Hart, and I hope Spike is finally free to Drusilla’s control. Whatever path they take, it will be a new one as opposed to the well-worn storyline we’re already familiar with. The unknown holds a tempting potential for exploration.
