Brandon Sanderson’s Mistborn series is a true fantasy classic with iconic characters. The books take us into the world of Allomancers and legends. One of the best aspects about the series is that the main protagonist is a female. Vin Venture is an amazing character who grows and becomes a total, excuse my French, badass. Vin shows us what happens when the little guy, or gal, stands up to Goliath and wins. Like Phèdre no Delaunay, Vin proves that what appears weak is not always so. They are the most formidable heroines in the fictional world.
Who is She?
Vin Venture is the main protagonist in Sanderson’s Mistborn series. Vin starts the series as a streetwise thief with a talent for luck. Her life is miserable until she meets Kelsier. She then learns that she is Mistborn. This means that she can manipulate all of the metals into fantastical powers. She also becomes part of the hare-brained scheme that Kelsier is planning to take down the evil Lord Ruler. Vin learns to trust her comrades and grow into her powers as Mistborn.

Why So Crushworthy?
When you first meet Vin, you want to rescue her. Her life is terrible and she is constantly abused. However, Vin learns she has the ability to free herself after Kelsier comes into her life. Vin is mistrustful, street smart, and hides in the shadows. As she grows in the novel, she embraces the shadows of her past and harnesses her Mistborn powers. She learns to smile and trust the people around her. It’s great to see Vin’s confidence steadily grow throughout the books. To me, Vin gives people hope that they can let go of their pasts and become something more.
Vin is funny without meaning to be in the books. Her straightforward interactions with her friends and Elend made me chuckle frequently. She says what she is thinking without being too polite about it. Vin also teaches readers how to open their hearts without losing themselves. Just as Vin learns to accept people as they are, she is accepted in return. Vin is a great role model for female readers and beyond worthy of crushworthy status.
