Crushworthy Characters: D’Artagnan (BBC’s The Musketeers)

Season 2 of BBC’s The Musketeers has started in the UK and will soon be on America’s screens again. The show is just great all the way around. I think Alexandre Dumas would approve. The show provides thrills and plenty of crushworthy characters. I mean, I think all of the Musketeers are handsome — yet, none more so than this article’s titular character.

Who is He?

D’Artagnan is one of the main characters in Alexandre Dumas’s novel, The Three Musketeers, and its follow up books. On the BBC show, he is played by Luke Pasqualino. D’Artagnan is a young man from the countryside who travels to Paris to join the Musketeers. On the show he gets into many misadventures due to being too nice and having a big soft spot for women.

Fun Fact:

Luke and the others had to go through a Musketeer bootcamp to learn how to fight and ride horses.

Why So Crushworthy?

Luke’s D’Artagnan made my 2014 hot list for many good reasons. Granted, it took me a bit not to see him as the ill-fated stable boy The Borgias. But I’m glad I did. D’Artagnan himself is a noble and swashbuckling character. He is the epitome of a romantic hero. He will always try to save the day and the damsel in distress. Those damsels usually get him in trouble, though. Look at that mess with Milady de Winter. D’Artagnan is just simply a nice guy who wants to do the right thing.

You can count on D’Artagnan to ride to your rescue. He’s done it a lot for Constance. Don’t get me started on her. D’Artagnan started out a rough recruit and has earned his right to be a true Musketeer. I’ve enjoyed watching his journey (and reading about it when I was younger). There have been many incarnations of him on the screen. But Pasqualino’s has been one of the best in my opinion. He brings a bit of innocence, humor, and good nature to the role. I can’t wait to see how his character grows in Season 2.
