In the last issue of Captain Midnight, he and Jones successfully fought off an invasion of Midnight’s mountain base. However, the leader of the mercenary group, Tempus, got away and took a small town hostage. He wanted to draw Midnight out and it worked. The beginning of this issue shows the townsfolk watching Midnight’s battle from the last issue. They believe it to be fireworks. Then Tempus shows up and things get worse.

Back at his destroyed base, Midnight and Jones come up with a plan to stop Tempus and save the people of the town. Jones wants to know if he can keep the rocket pack. Midnight basically agrees by saying he was trying to upgrade it, then stating he’ll have to start all over again getting his technology back where it was. Jones is worried that they might not be able to stop Tempus. All of Midnight’s tools have been destroyed. Midnight assures Jones that he still has something up his sleeve.
Before the final showdown, there’s a little interlude back to Charlotte, her grandmother, and Helios. They want him to find Chuck and he wants his teleportation powers back. Helios is being hunted by Chuck because he knows too much. Just as they are about to board a small plane, some of Chuck’s other henchmen show up, guns drawn. We will find out the trio’s fate in the next issue because the comic jumps back to Midnight and Jones.
The duo is sneaking through the town, taking out Tempus’s men one by one. Tempus does what most villains do: the explanatory monologue. Jones overhears a lot of it, but is knocked out by the mechanic from earlier, Jay. Tempus and Jay have Midnight over a barrel, so to speak. Midnight must surrender or the town and everyone in it goes up in a blaze of fire. Midnight, being Midnight, surrenders, but Tempus goes back on the deal. The issue ends with the town burning down and Midnight in a very tight spot.
Captain Midnight is getting more and more interesting. I’m really enjoying the plot, because I have no idea where it will go. There is always a little twist that keeps the reader on their toes. Whoever wants Midnight’s brain doesn’t seem to want the rest of Midnight, which seems strange and a bit unstable. Helios is still an unknown factor and now even he is wanted by Chuck. It will be fun to find out where this is all going.
