The eleventh issue of Mass Effect: Foundation is about everyone’s favorite merc/bounty hunter, Zaeed Massani! I liked Zaeed when I first met him, even if he was a bit ruthless. Playing his story mission was a lot of fun and came with some tough choices to make. I’m pretty sure I’ve mentioned this before, but I just love learning about character backstories, especially characters that you spend hours with in a game. So this issue is very exciting for me. However, before we get to Zaeed, we see Rasa and Miranda arguing. Rasa is still on medical observation and is upset about it. Miranda says she knows Rasa has been trying to access files on the Lazarus Project, repeatedly. Rasa has nothing to say.
Then, we shift to Zaeed. He’s in a precarious position to say the least. He flashes back to just a few days ago, when the Shadow Broker gave him a job to take down a Turian War Frigate, the Verrikan. Zaeed, never one to turn down money, agrees. He then puts his own team together consisting of a Salarin named Kendo, an Asari named Tristana, and a human named Jace. There is also an inside Turian called Polonis.
The Verrikan is flying through space, as War Frigates are wont to do, so the team has to get creative. It’s kind of like that scene in Star Trek: Into Darkness where Kirk and Khan zip through space and into the enemy ship. However, things don’t work out as well for Zaeed and his team. It seems that another Turian, Garkko, caught onto Polonis and things go bad. Kendo is sucked out into space, while the other three have to fight their way through the ship. The Verrikan is outputting a distress call and is in danger of being shot down by its own people.
Zaeed makes it to the bridge and is joined by Tristana, who says Jace didn’t make it. Now the massive amount of credits only has to be split two ways. The two of them tear through the Turians that are left. Zaeed basically takes the brakes off the ship and hopes the Turian base will shoot it down, which it does. Zaeed goes off to collect his pay, and presumably to move onto another job.
Back with Rasa, she’s looking over Zaeed’s dossier while standing in front of Shepard’s tank. Miranda watches her, then calls the Illusive Man. Not only is it interesting to learn about your companions, the issue gives a bit of mystery surrounding Rasa and her interest in Shepard. She probably won’t be around much longer if she keeps poking around the Lazarus files. I don’t know what will happen next, but it will be fun to find out.
