The Devil May Cry series is up there in my favorites. It’s somewhere in the middle. I’m not going to get into a debate which is better: the original or the reboot. I think both have their merits and I enjoyed playing both. What didn’t change was how awesome the main character is. Dante will always be the bad ass half-demon we all love.
Stats:
Full Name: Just Dante… as far as I know.
Age: Varies by Game
Occupation: Demon slayer, owner of the Devil May Cry shop
Who is He?
Dante is the main hero in the Devil May Cry series published by Capcom. He owns the Devil May Cry shop that specializes in supernatural issues. He is the son of the demon Sparda and twin brother to Vergil. Famous for his red coat and his guns Ebony and Ivory, Dante can call up his demon powers when needed.
Fun Facts:
- In all four original games, Dante was impaled by his own sword. He needs to keep a better eye on it.
- Dante has a really dirty mouth. I learned new curse words in DmC: Devil May Cry.
- Dante is a junk food addict.
- It is said that Dante is loosely based off Leon S. Kennedy’s appearance.
- Hideki Kamiya, Dante’s first creator, says Dante wears red because it is a traditional hero’s color in Japan.
Who So Crushworthy?
Dante is just flat out cool. He has flair, inside and out. He struts around in his red coat taking out demons everyday. Dante makes demon slaying look good. Dante isn’t just a butt kicker though. For a brawler character, he has serious depth. His human side gives him emotions and sympathy for humankind. He really cares about helping people. Look at how he rescues Trish though she’s working for the bad guy. He continues to help out Nero even when Nero thinks he’s a bad guy. He still loves his brother even when he becomes a villain. I think I was surprised at how much depth of feeling he does have. I mean, he presents himself as an indifferent, cocky, junk food eating demon slayer.
I think both designs make Dante a gorgeous specimen. He looks good as a silver fox and the edgy version. Dante cracks me up. I guess it’s immature to laugh at potty language but Dante taught me words I never knew before. He also has some good one liners. Dante never lets anything get him down — except for those moments when he’s being impaled or suffering some other damaging injury. Dante just wants to run his business and rid the world of evil, but he keeps getting caught up in world-ending situations — by choice.
