Continuing from where I left off a couple of weeks ago, here are a few new (or at least relatively new) geeky videos. Plenty of video games, TV shows, and other pop cultural references. Plus a philosophical concept thrown in for good measure!
Sammus – “Games and Cartoons”
You ever have one of those days where you just want to get home and play video games and watch cartoons? Yeah, I’m sure we’ve all had those days. Too bad we can’t do that all the time!
Dr. Awkward (feat. Hersch) – “Get Away” (NSFW)
Speaking of video games, how about a song about GTA V? It doesn’t matter if you’ve never played the game (I haven’t), Doc Awk and Hersch have created a great heist song that works on its own.
Sulfur and cecilnick – “Pascal’s Wager”
When I reviewed the album this song comes from, I didn’t mention this particular track, but it’s another really strong one. Admittedly, the philosophical concept of Pascal’s Wager is, to me, probably one of the worst arguments for God, but I like the way the chorus sort of turns that around and has the deities being the ones doing the gambling.
Scythia – “Bear Claw Tavern”
There’s a reasonably decent chance you’ve already seen this one since it was featured on io9, but just in case… Folk metal with a Celtic touch. Wenches. A wizard. A dwarf. And many drunken shenanigans. Just watch it now!
Coolzey feat. Schäffer the Darklord – “Glasses”
Pretty much anything with Schäffer in it is going to be good, and this track is no exception. I’ll be checking out more from Coolzey, too, in the future. Good stuff!
Wordburglar – “Rap Viper”
If you’ve ever wanted to see Wordburglar dressed as a Cobra Viper and rapping, this is the video for you. And even if the thought never occurred to you, you should still check it out because it’s just awesome!
Adam WarRock – “Humanity (Call the Doctor)”
Uh, guys, Adam WarRock did something completely unexpected… No, I don’t mean that he released an EP based on some TV show that he binge-watched; that’s perfectly normal. Actually, the EP is about Doctor Who. Yeah, the show that he rather proudly declared that he’d never watched. Just go check it out already!
Swamp Thing – “Elephant Man” (NSFW)
Swamp Thing’s latest video nicely captures the creepy / disturbing nature of the music. Given that the song is about the descent of the band into “skid row,” it fits perfectly. Good stuff as always!
Tommy SpaSe and the Alchemists – “Things That Go Bump in the Night”
Like most people, I occasionally get random followers on Twitter. Most of the time they’re bots or whatever, but sometimes they turn out to be really cool. Case in point: Tommy SpaSe and the Alchemists. I really love the Lovecraftian / steampunk / vaudevillian vibe to the music and outfits. I’m very much looking forward to their completed album when it’s released; the songs that have currently been released are all quite good.
Tribe One – “The Official Handbook of the Marvel Universe from A to Z”
The title of this one is exactly what the song is: Tribe One raps about Marvel characters from A to Z with comics representing the lyrics shown on the screen. And plenty of alliteration.
